Announcing the CCA-North Student Scholarship and Marian McNamara Scholarship

in memory of Marian McNamara.

Congratulations Catherine for winning the IrisMcNamara Scholarship!

A little bit about Catherine:

Having studied Latin for seven years at Convent of the Sacred Heart and St. Ignatius, I will now continue my study of Classics through Brown University. There I  will pursue both Latin and Greek along with history, archeology, and culture, as well as spending my summers working on digs or in museums, before continuing to graduate school. Eventually, I would like to teach and research at a university, with a particular focus on Roman history and development of science and technology.

The McNamara Scholarship was established in 2004 by colleagues, friends and former students of Marian McNamara (1924-2003). Marian taught Latin at both Gunn and Palo Alto High Schools for over thirty years. She was an active member of many national and local classical associations, serving on the CCA-N board for many years in a variety of offices. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage our top high school graduates to continue their study of classical languages while at university and to consider a career in the teaching of classics.
