Who We Are |
On July 12th-13th, 1916, at the University of California Berkeley, several western associations coalesced into the Classical Association of the Pacific States.
In 1969, the California Classical Association emerged as a separate body. It is a non-profit organization with a volunteer Board of Directors elected by Members. The CCA serves to promote the teaching and study of Classics and to promote the professional interests of its members. |

The Marian McNamara Scholarship
Marian (1924-2003) taught Latin at both Gunn and Palo Alto High Schools for over thirty years. She was an active member of many national and local classical associations, serving on the CCA-N Board for many years in a variety of offices. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage our top high school graduates to continue their study of classical languages while at university and to consider a career in teaching of the classics. Richard L. Trapp Grant-In-Aid
Dr. Trapp (1923-1996) was both department chair and professor of classics at San Francisco State University as well as an officer and long-time Board Member of CCA-N. He was above all an inspiring and innovative teacher of classics, who encouraged the intellectual and professional growth of his students and colleagues. Members may apply for a grant from this fund to support professional development activities, including study and travel abroad |
