The Marian McNamara Scholarship
Each year, in memory of Marian McNamara, the CCA-North grants one high school student who has studied Latin and/or Greek a scholarship of one thousand dollars.
The scholarship was established in 2004 by colleagues, friends and former students of Marian McNamara (1924-2003) and named after her. Marian taught Latin at both Gunn and Palo Alto High Schools for over thirty years. She was an active member of many national and local classical associations, serving on the CCA-North board for many years in a variety of offices. This scholarship is intended both to celebrate the accomplishments of students who have excelled in Latin and/or Greek, and to encourage our top high school graduates to continue their study of classical languages in college and to consider a career in the teaching of classics.
The Marian McNamara Scholarship is currently supported in part by a generous gift from the Drell family.
